“Recently, a patient on Daly 6A (a unit specializing in the Acute Care for Elders) at Baystate Medical Center, was feeling more than restless. After many attempts to find an avenue that would make this patient feel calmer, the staff had a unique idea and attempted something new. Knowing that the patient expressed her love for music, the staff found Ricardo. Ricardo Morales, PCT, spends his spare time as a dance instructor, and finds a lot of joy in bringing this passion to others. Ricardo extended his hand to this lovely patient, who gladly accepted, and the two began to dance in the hallways. It was evident to everyone watching (staff, visitors, and other patients) that this patient was overjoyed and filled with delight swaying to the music with her new dance partner.
‘It was just the sweetest thing I have seen in a long time,’ says nurse, Izzy Barbosa. ‘It reminds us why we started this unit, and the reasons we all got into healthcare. I mean, you should have seen her smile when Ricardo dipped her!'”
